Health Matters Hero: Lance Kaldor
July 2020
Congratulations, Lance!
WHAT IS YOUR ‘WHY‘?
My why is easy. I got tired of the negative self-talk in my head. Growing up I was always overweight, I was never muscular, and I was never good enough because of my weight. That had a detrimental effect on my self-esteem. Later in life, I had a number of life events both physically and emotionally strike me. Those events just amplified the negative self-image talk going on in my head. I knew I had to fix something or I would soon take my own life. So, I decided since praying and hoping for the miracle to come along and fix it all was not working. I would do it myself.
WHO INSPIRES YOU?
People that never give up. People that have the whole universe against them but they try and try and try again until they succeed.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST WELL-BEING ACHIEVEMENT?
In July of 2017, I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. I began an oral chemo regiment. That along with my working on my health routine allowed for me to get the news here in June 2020 that there are no leukemia protein cells in my body, and essentially, I have beat Leukemia. Yeah, me!!!
WHAT IS A GOAL YOU ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
To have a set of biceps. LOL. I’ve never had those before.
HOW DO YOU STAY WELL AT WORK?
Go to the gym after work. It lets me release the stress and tension from the day, and allows me to start each day anew with a new sense of purpose. If I cannot make it to the gym I go for a bike ride.
FREE WRITE! IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?
I don’t follow a workout regime or follow an eating plan. I do what feels right for me. I suppose the argument could be made that if I did I might see changes faster, but I would be giving up things that bring me happiness. In the world we live in, we have to have happiness. Without it, life just gets harder. I am not a health hero I just want others to see, if you just try a little it makes a difference.
In the world we live in, we have to have happiness. Without it, life just gets harder.
